Clément Lafond has enjoyed dancing since his youth, everything from disco to social dance. Six years ago, he "re-discovered" his passion for dance, but this time for Argentine tango - ironically, after he had been "dragged" by a friend to a tango salon. And there he was mesmerized by the synchronized, passionate dance - that seemed to be so intriguing to him. Six months later, Clément finally decided to take on the challenge to learn to master his body to be able to engage in the interesting tango moves! Committed to learning to perfect his style, he attended numerous lessons and practice evenings every week.
His initial training began in Vancouver with Susana Domingues. After having moved back to Montreal (to his roots), Clément continued his intense training primarily with Bobby Thompson and Carol Horowitz (Studio Tango Montreal) and with Laura Steinmander and Paul Montpetit (La Tangueria). He also attended many workshops with Argentinean masters such as Pablo Veron (The Tango Lesson) and Thomas Howlin as well as many special workshops by numerous international guest teachers, such as Alex Krebs, Bryant Lopez & Jessie Faye Lavin, Bulent Karabagli, Marika Landry, and Mario Consiglieri & Anabella Diaz-Hojman. Clément has also participated in the 2007 Tango Festival in Barcelona, Spain.
Since the past five years, Clément has been teaching Argentine tango in special workshops, in class settings, and private courses. He has performed many tango demonstrations at special occasions and fundraising events in Montreal, Sherbrooke, Knowlton, Halifax, and in Brandon and Burlington, Vermont.
Clément's main goal is to transmit his deep passion for tango to the many students he encounters. As well as having a flair for dramatic and playful moves, the elegance and simplicity of Clément's style is evident in his teaching that tango is not only a set of steps, but the ability to transmit to your partner the right energy to perform the many sensual and passionate moves - synchronized to Argentine tango music...nourishing the body, mind, and soul!
Lydia Martone has been a "late bloomer" on the dance scene. In her late thirties, she discovered Latin Dance and later enrolled in Ballroom Dance classes which Lydia enjoyed for several years...until she went to her first milonga and was immediately entranced by Argentine Tango. It was only five years later that she finally registered for tango lessons. And there was no turning back.
Lydia has studied tango at several schools in Montreal and has also participated in many tango special workshops given by local and international tango professionals. Both in the fall of 2002 and 2003, Lydia and Dot Luk organized the very successful Centraide fund-raising events "Tango Passion" which included tango performances by many professional tango teachers in Montreal, and musical performances by Alexandre Venegas (Intakto). Since fall 2004, Lydia has assisted Clement Lafond with his teaching tango beginner classes given at the Pointe-Claire Community Centre. During her visit to Buenos Aires in 2007, Lydia had the opportunity to perfect her tango technique with the local Argentinean masters.
Her passion for tango and her dedication to assisting the many beginner students is very evident. Lydia's wish is to continue to promote tango as a regular activity in people's lives, as it is not only a sensual dance to be enjoyed fully, but also a wonderful physical activity that improves physical and mental health - while having fun!
